Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my
heart, be alway acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my

I found trouble and heaviness; then called I upon the Name of the LORD;

Exaltabo te, Deus.
I WILL magnify thee, O God, my King;

Great is the LORD, and marvellous worthy to be praised;
* there is no end of his greatness.
One generation shall praise thy works unto another,

*Isaiah 12

Jeremiah 32:36-42
And now therefore thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It shall
be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence;
Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury,
and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:
And they shall be my people, and I will be their God: And I will give them one heart, and one way, that
they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: And I will make an
everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my
fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and
I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul. For thus saith the
Lord; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good
that I have promised them.

Exodus 3:1-15
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the
backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the Lord
appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush
burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this
great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called
unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said,
Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy
ground. Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the
God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. And the Lord said, I have
surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their
taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the
Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with
milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites,
and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto
me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. Come now therefore, and
I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the
children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto
thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon
this mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say
unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name?
what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou
say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus
shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial
unto all generations.

St. John 11:21-44
Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know,
that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother
shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet
shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith
unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is
come, and calleth for thee. As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him. Now Jesus
was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him. The Jews then which were
with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out,
followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there. Then when Mary was come where Jesus
was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother
had not died. When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he
groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord,
come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! And some of them said, Could
not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this
time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou
wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then they took away the stone from the place
where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard
me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they
may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus,
come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was
bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
The Second Lesson (Second Set of Propers)
Romans 11:25
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your
own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn
away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. As
concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for
the fathers' sakes. For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. For as ye in times past have
not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: Even so have these also now not
believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. For God hath concluded them all in
unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge
of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the
mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be
recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory
for ever. Amen.
The Second Lesson (Third Set of Propers)
I Peter 5:1-11
The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of
Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you,
taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the chief
Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. Likewise, ye younger,
submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility:
for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the
mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for
you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking
whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are
accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his
eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen,
settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Benedictus. St. Luke i. 68.
BLESSED be the Lord God of Israel; * for he hath visited and
redeemed his people;
And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us, * in the
house of his servant David;
As he spake by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * which
have been since the world began;
That we should be saved from our enemies, * and from
the hand of all that hate us.
To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, * and
to remember his holy covenant;
To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather
Abraham, * that he would give us;
That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies *
might serve him without fear;
In holiness and righteousness before him, * all the days

The Apostles' Creed.
I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was
crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he
rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the

the quick and the dead.

The Collect for the Day
Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity
O LORD, we beseech thee, let thy continual pity cleanse and defend
thy Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without thy
succour, preserve it evermore by thy help and goodness; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A Collect for Peace.
O GOD, who art the author of peace and lover of concord,
in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service
is perfect freedom; Defend us thy humble servants in all assaults
of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may not
fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
A Collect for Grace.
O Lord, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God,
who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; Defend
us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day
we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but
that all our doings, being ordered by thy governance, may be
righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A Prayer for the President of the United States
A Prayer for the Clergy and People.
Almighty and everlasting God, from whom cometh every good and perfect
gift; Send down upon our Bishops, and other Clergy, and upon the
Congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of thy
grace; and, that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual
dew of thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honour of our Advocate
and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.
A Prayer for All Conditions of Men.
O God, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee
for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldest be pleased to
make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations. More
especially we pray for thy holy Church universal; that it may be so
guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call
themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the
faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of
life. Finally, we commend to thy fatherly goodness all those who are any
ways afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; [* especially
those for whom our prayers are desired;] that it may please thee to
comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities; giving
them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the
