Sentences of Scripture.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my
heart, be alway acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my
strength and my redeemer. Psalm xix. 14.
The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers
shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the
Father seeketh such to worship him. St. John iv. 23.
General Confession & Absolution
O Lord, open thou our lips.
Answer. And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

O COME, let us sing unto the LORD; * let us heartily
rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; * and
show ourselves glad in him with psalms.
For the LORD is a great God; * and a great King
above all gods.
In his hand are all the corners of the earth; * and the
strength of the hills is his also.
The sea is his, and he made it; * and his hands
prepared the dry land.
O come, let us worship and fall down, * and kneel
before the LORD our Maker.
For he is the Lord our God; * and we are the people

The Fifty-First Psalm
Miserere mei, Deus.
HAVE mercy upon me, O God, after thy great goodness;
* according to the multitude of thy mercies do away
mine offences.
Wash me throughly from my wickedness,
* and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my faults,
* and my sin is ever before me.
Against thee only have I sinned, and done this
evil in thy sight;
* that thou mightest be justified in thy saying,
and clear when thou shalt judge.
Behold, I was shapen in wickedness,
* and in sin hath my mother conceived me.
But lo, thou requirest truth in the inward parts,
* and shalt make me to understand wisdom secretly.
Thou shalt purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
* thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness,
* that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Turn thy face from my sins,
* and put out all my misdeeds.
Make me a clean heart, O God,
* and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence,

O give me the comfort of thy help again,

Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God,
thou that art the God of my health;

Thou shalt open my lips, O Lord,

For thou desirest no sacrifice, else would I give it thee;
* but thou delightest not in burnt-offerings.
The sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit:
* a broken and contrite heart, O God, shalt thou not despise.
O be favourable and gracious unto Sion;
* build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifice of
righteousness, with the burnt-offerings and oblations;
* then shall they offer young bullocks upon thine altar.

The First Lesson
Exodus 20:1-21
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the
land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not
make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the
earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve
them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto
the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that
love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the
Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in
it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant,
nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day,
and hallowed it. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the
Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou
shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor
any thing that is thy neighbour's. And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the
noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood
afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us,
lest we die. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear
may be before your faces, that ye sin not. And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the
thick darkness where God was.

The Second Lesson
Hebrews 8
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on
the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true
tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and
sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth,
he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve
unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to
make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee
in the mount. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator
of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been
faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith,
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with
the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took
them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I
regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after
those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be
to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and
every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I
will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In
that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is
ready to vanish away.
Benedictus. St. Luke i. 68.
BLESSED be the Lord God of Israel; * for he hath visited and
redeemed his people;
And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us, * in the
house of his servant David;
As he spake by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * which
have been since the world began;
That we should be saved from our enemies, * and from
the hand of all that hate us.
To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, * and
to remember his holy covenant;
To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather
Abraham, * that he would give us;
That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies *
might serve him without fear;
In holiness and righteousness before him, * all the days

The Apostles' Creed.
I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was
crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he
rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the
right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge
the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost: The holy Catholic Church; The Communion of
Saints: The Forgiveness of sins: The Resurrection of the body: And the

The Lord's Prayer.
OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for
ever and ever. Amen.
Minister. O Lord, show thy mercy upon us.

Minister. O God, make clean our hearts within us.

The Collect for the Day
The Second Sunday After Easter
ALMIGHTY God, who hast given thine only Son to be
unto us both a sacrifice for sin, and also an ensample
of godly life; Give us grace that we may always most
thankfully receive that his inestimable benefit, and also
daily endeavour ourselves to follow the blessed steps of
his most holy life; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
A Collect for Peace.
O GOD, who art the author of peace and lover of concord,
in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service
is perfect freedom; Defend us thy humble servants in all assaults
of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may not
fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
A Collect for Grace.
O Lord, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God,
who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; Defend
us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day
we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but
that all our doings, being ordered by thy governance, may be
righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A Prayer for the President of the United States
A Prayer for the Clergy and People.
Almighty and everlasting God, from whom cometh every good and perfect
gift; Send down upon our Bishops, and other Clergy, and upon the
Congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of thy
grace; and, that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual
dew of thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honour of our Advocate
and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.
A Prayer for All Conditions of Men.
O God, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee
for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldest be pleased to
make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations. More
especially we pray for thy holy Church universal; that it may be so
guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call
themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the
faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of
life. Finally, we commend to thy fatherly goodness all those who are any
ways afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; [* especially
those for whom our prayers are desired;] that it may please thee to
comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities; giving
them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their
afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.
A General Thanksgiving
